How often a cesspool needs emptying is not the same for every property. It depends on three key factors worth knowing.
Knowing these factors helps you schedule emptying in good time, rather than waiting for the first problems to show up inside the property itself.
What frequency depends on
The size of the cesspool determines how long it takes to fill. A larger cesspool goes longer between emptyings than a smaller one under the same load of use.
The number of people in the household plays an equally important role, the more people using the property, the faster the cesspool fills.
Water use directly affects the volume of sewage. Washing machines, frequent bathroom use, or higher water use at summer properties all bring forward the need for emptying.
At properties used seasonally, a sudden rise in the number of people and in water use can fill the cesspool much faster than during the rest of the year.
Signs that it is full
There are three signs that a cesspool is approaching its limit.
- Drains empty more slowly than usual in sinks, bathrooms and toilets.
- An unpleasant smell around the cesspool or inside the property, especially near drains.
- Damp patches or sewage surfacing on the ground around the cesspool.
If you notice even one of these signs, it is a good idea to schedule an emptying soon, to avoid unpleasant situations inside the property.
In many cases, alongside the emptying we can also check the condition of the connecting pipework with the camera, to establish whether there is any additional problem in the system.
Why a licensed tanker
Emptying and transporting sewage must be done with a tanker holding the required licence, so that the sewage ends up at a proper disposal point and not just anywhere.
Our own licensed tanker serves all of Western Macedonia, Ptolemaida, Kozani, Florina, Grevena, Kastoria and Amyntaio, Monday to Saturday, 07:00 to 19:00.
Holding a proper licence is not just about the legality of the work, it is also about the correct handling of sewage all the way to its final destination.
Homes and industry
We handle cesspool emptying and sewage transport from both homes and industrial sites, fitting the schedule to the needs of each site.
For larger sites with steady sewage output, we can agree a regular emptying schedule, so that no delay ever occurs.
Whether it is a home or an industrial unit, the logic stays the same, timely emptying protects the drainage system and prevents problems that are harder to deal with later.
